Located just west of Denver with a population of 142,980 as of 2010, Lakewood is the 5th most populated city in the state. Most of the modern development began in 1889 a former president of the Colorado Central Railroad. In the past they worked in coordination with a town called Jefferson County but as of 1969, they combined the two areas together and voted to change the city’s name to Lakewood.
